hello just joined so not sure i'm in the right forum, anyway here goes, i have a 98 300tdi disco and the speakers are absolutely rubbish! 4 inch door speakers, tinny as you like. i'm looking for a way to get a decent depth of sound without having to resort to wasting space by putting amps and boom boxes in the boot. for a start there are always two dogs in the boot so that's out of the question, also half the time the seats are down and the floor is covered in wood and chainsaws so anything like that wouldn't last five minutes! i've been looking at under seat sub woofers but am not too sure? i don't want to be driving down the road rattling windows, just need a decent noise, any ideas? cheers!

Descant mid range componants with separet tweeters. you can get good 4" ones look up pioneer TSG something like that, They fit into the door cards and the rear slots.

If you fit subs under the seat then nothing bigger than 8" as there is limited room. You don't say the type of head unit your using and if it has pre outs to rum the amp. Or you could buld an enclosure, buy removing one of the dicky seats in the back and putting it there.

In fairness I find my stock set up decent with a Pioneer head unit. Then again I have an ES and they use Clarion speakers as far as I can tell

Yup they do as that's what I got.

But when I was a lot younger I liked my music loud and I had a discovery at the time. And took the time to buld the sound system up.

Not so much into that now as I want to go off road more.

I was running JBL 100w 6x9's a 300w 10" sub and two 12" Pioneer 3700w SPL competition class subs it was LOUD!

All pioneer kit. 6x9 Ts-e 350w run off there own amp in the back, components with tweets in the foot well in the front at 100w and a 12" sub at 3000w with another amp. Then there was a cap to keep the power even.

It was able to set off car alarms :lol:

not after some bad boy ting innit! just looking for some decent quality. whoever had it before fitted obviously the cheapest nastiest little speakers they could find. was also thinking dab radio too? seems pointless fitting good headset and not sorting the sound out?

My disco wireless is loud enough for me and I'm ****in near deaf bein an old person.
You want to get deaf sooner rather than later then turn up the volume

The thing is you are only limited by your budget and imagination. If you after quality of sound then a sub not what you need.


Subs under the seat may not work for a few reasons. Lack of space and lack of direction
You can buld your own inclosed enclosures easy enough with mdf then a layer of tred plate to protect it with ports ontop it's what I did.

Then replace and rewire the speakers with some good quality components from harmon or bose or Find a scraped disco 1 with clarion speakers in it

But if you buy new then make sure you have about a month braking in period first.

Hmmmm .75" tweeters, 5.25" midrange and 6.5" midbass in each door of a proper mini cooper, each pair had a 500W (250Wrms) amp and in the boot was 2 12" dual voice coil JL 12W3 subs wired in parallel on a 600Wrms amp, all driven through a Rockford Fosgate Line driver/x-over for clearer signals. Hit 148.2db at a soundoff I attended.

But in answer to the original post!

You'll find the most gain by swapping out the headunit (the thing you stick your cds and iplop into) some now have 4x60W amplifiers built in. Beyond that is proper component speakers in the doors and maybe some 8" or 6x9 subs under the seats.
