Can i just put +2" springs and shocks on my Disco 1 without changing anything else? i would like to put 265/75/R16 tyres on and need a 2" lift to do it. Any advice please

no you don't..there is a guide at top of this section to 'what tyres can i fit to my disco' From memory you need to trim the arches a little, adjust steering stops.

You dont need the lift but yes you could just fit shocks and springs, you would prob want to do your brake lines as well though. You wont get any extra suspension travel, all that will happen is the body/chassis will sit 2" higher over the axles...

It won't work well, but you can easily do it ...

Yes but as was said extend the brake lines also think about your prop ujs if there old the lift could **** them as well as othere things such as castor correcting radius arms

thanks for advice fellas, i was only wondering if i could get a bit more height without fitting a complete lift kit, or causing any additional wear or damage. I will deffo do the brake pipes though.

The 2" springs/shocks will only give you that bit extra height, other than that its standard suspension still. If you want 'trick' suspension then you will need to look at dropped mounts, cones, cranked trailing arms, extended bumpstops, brake lines e.t.c

this will come in around £1000 for a decent kit + fitting (easy enough to do yourself though)

Then as gazdav has said you may need to look at your prop. if its a 200tdi then the standard one is fine, if its a 300tdi then you will want to swap it over for a 200 prop and a 200 flange for your rear diff.

Front arms wont need to be done at 2", any more and you will want to get them cranked as well...

The tyres won't fit without some work, albeit pretty minor, to stop them scuffing, even with a 2" sus lift .. in my experience.

I lifted mine 11 months ago with +2" britpart yellow springs & gaz shocks that cost around £170 and I have done 10,000 miles since, including some green laning and a bit of light off roading with no problems caused by it, except for the rear anti-roll bar bushes as they did look a bit twisted when last checked, so i may well remove that altogether before the next MOT and extend the brake lines at the same time.

The doughnut is still ok and i keep then the UJ's etc well greased.

Good for you, do you have 265/75/R16 tyres fitted? Which is why he wants a lift and no other work needed ..... and which is why I said it won't work well.

i'm running 285/85/r15 on mine with a +2" lift and they rubbed front and rear arches so fit the 75mm flatdog arches and cut aload od metal out. Mates 200tdi had 265/75/r16 with +2" lift and had to camel the rear. you might get away with it. just lift it anyways lol

There's nothing wrong, really, with what you want to fit, but it can't be done 'without changing anything else' as you asked ...

The larger, wider tyres will make a huge difference off-road anyway, but you will need to cut some body away, maybe reset the steering lock stops .. it's so much suck it and see it's hard to say exactly what you might get away with ..

Im running 31's and I needed to trim the rear lower arch (infact I cut the whole lot back to the bump strip line). I didnt need to make any other mods, it does rub slightly on one lock but I havent adjusted as I know about it and am careful on that lock. This is all with a 2" lift...
