I have a pioneer head unit in my d1 and the audio keeps cutting out but head unit is working fine. Bought a new head unit still have same probs.does the speaker wiring from the head unit go to some interface unit before it reaches the door speakers as well as the ones in the boot.

Not as standard they don't, it's direct feed from the ISO plug to each of the four loudspeakers.

Check the condition of the earth strap on the inner front wing, just behind the battery. If it's rusted here (very common) you will get an intermittent feed.

well after much diggin into the wiring loom I found the problem.
mine does not have an amp. the wiring goes straight from head unit to speakers as prev posted.

I found the problem,Inside the multiplug under dash drivers side was one small single strand of wire. it was sat between the plug and socket and was sitting across the speaker pins. removed it and now all is well in the world

I can now get back to playing my music as I chase yokies of thoses sodding electric scooters
