Bought a set of defender wings the other day, just cleaning them out and replacing one of the outer side panels. It was going great until i actually tried to remove the outer wing.

There are nuts all along the outer wing join that are almost impossible to reach?! How the heck do you undo these nuts?

There is a lip that is getting in the way, maybe this needs to be bent away?

Wheel off

Two spanners (flexi ratchet best) for the top seam.
Bulkhead ones are easier with a socket and extension.

They are a sod to remove.....

Managed to get them all undone with patience and 2 spanners and bending the old panel. I have no idea how i'm going to attach the new plastic one...

Maybe captive nuts?

I presume you are referring to the outer wing panel and not the complete wing? Ive never split a wing but will be intersting to hear from anyone who has.

I've done both - I must confess the remove whole wing option was easier!

I seem to have made life hard for myself. I was cleaning the whole wing up and repainting it as the same time as replacing the outer side panel.

Only managed to get one cleaned up and disassembled in 4 hours, yet to hammerite it and re-assemble.

I think for the side panel i'm going to have to use captive nuts else risk breaking something.

you can get flange nuts which have a corragation on flange i use them as they hold them selves whilst tightening as soon as they nip

You know what, i'll give them a shot. They're close enough to the original parts that i won't need to modify anything.
