Why did you not give it to him in the first place and save the time and troble of people responding to your post?

Bored of fixing it!!!!!!!!!!! It's what Landy ownership is about, go and stand at the back of the room.:eek:

I asked the question as I was hoping there may have been a common problem I could fix there and then. But I take it this isnt the case so I asked him to look as I am far to busy to investigate.

Well when I say im bored, is more to do with me not having the time! I also live in an apartment (flat!) with no drive so I have to do everything at the side of the road. Not ideal when playing with oil!

Yep! point taken. What I must say though is get the oil pressure checked asap, if the pressure is low and you continue driving it you are soon gonna be asking how to rebuild it. ;)

Ricky,

Don't be to upset! if you have given it an oil change and filter change sure its not lost oil nor lost pressure its most likley a switch. if you have lost oil pressure then it would have damaged the engine usually beyond economical repair. if the engine sounds good and no knocking noises its quite likley its a sender. I have had 4 in the past year and half. all senders. Symptoms were as you describe.

We investigated by pulling apart the pressure switch the two we pulled apart had a split diaphram so there was no pressure differential oil was both switch contact side and oil side. I can only presume that they were all original oil switches and they could have been circa 10-20 years old.

Change the switch will take only a couple of mins i did mine in the snow. If you have lost pressure then the damage could be serious I suspect that if it starts on the button and runs as it should, oil was not allowed to run low or overheat you have a good chance it may well be an easy fix.

Engine runs and sounds great, although im not driving it. Oil is always checked and I service it regularly.

Im not a total noob to mechanics, just this is my first diesel ive owned so I asked for advice incase anyone had experienced the same!

Thanks for all the decent replys and hopefully I will have it sorted soon.
