Afternoon, My head is getting Fooked by my F`kin Starter Motor.
I Have an "L" reg (93ish) Disco 2.5tdi, Auto.

Few weeks ago out of the blue all I could get was a Clicking sound when starting. The earth Strap on the starter motor was not bolted to any earthing point. We earthed it and it worked. However it would not start again with out messing around with the earth. I Have reconnected the earth, but still nothing works unless it is messed about with.
It seems to work when it is "Hot-Wired" with a jump lead and loads of sparks. (well the motor spins then it can be started for the key).

Could it Be:
**** Earth
**** Live
Sticking Bendix

Or Do I need SwanVesta

Any Idieas what it could be

From my vast experience of starter problems my 90 gave me,
1. My live cable came off the start I reattached and was fine for a while
2. Starting problems again, wiggled live wire and worked (replaced live cable from battery to starter, worked fine for a while, think it burnt out while struggling to start
3. Clicking = flat battery, jump start and ran fine for a while
4.single click on turn of key then nothing, solenoid on starter had burnt out (replaced starter) ran fine for a while
5. Bad earth gave similar symptoms to flat battery, with clicking, temp fix was jump lead from battery to starter, eventually replaced engine earth and so far so good

Hope any of my problems help you if not give inspiration, your problem sounds like a break in the earth cable, but sparks could indicate a lose live wire bouncing round and arc"ing on anythin it touches perhaps it comes off and when you wiggle goes back on place, it attatches via a ring on the back of solenoid
