Well i've got the disco on the road, let it have a good run and its running great

However (first time i've noticed it) the 'ace reservoir' looks to be empty.
No warning lights have appeared, is it safe to continue driving it as it is / what fluid does it take?

2. Are u sure it's not converted on anti roll bars?

Check out if u still have the actuator there, look near the RH front spring(see pic) and if it is fill the reservoir ASAP or will loose the pump

1. Does the ACE light work on self test? I cant see a ACE light when the vehicle first does its checks. (I had to edit the left side of the pic as it chopped it off, thats why it looks a bit odd).. Not seeing this icon is a bad sign is it not?

I think I will have to get the vehicle quickly checked out by a mechanic, only had it a few weeks and it's been off the road till my insurance was sorted, only now I'm actualy spotting these problems, :doh:

Wish the previous owner had looked after it a bit better! Lot of minor things but flipping annoying to say the least. - i wonder how long this tank has been empty for!? and if the system has destroyed itself certainly hope not!

The pipes have rusted through and it's gotten a leak. However, the lamp should flash when you throw it around a corner, when it realises it has no fluid in it!

It seems the system is there but for some reason no warning light... i suppose it was on and the previous owner blanked the light. Fill the tank ASAP, start the engine and go for a ride then see if the oil is still there. If u heve access to tester plug it in and run system test on ACE .. then u will know for good

The ACE pump is self lubricating with the system's fluid so if it runs dry it burns out.

umm.. cant say i have noticed any flashing warning lights, Shall pass on the info to my Local land Rover deealership in the morning to get it bookd it.

Need it for next weekend, would be nice to get to finaly drive it, rather than fix it for a change .. teathing problems I hope!

Why does this sound like it's going to be an expensive fix

Just to update, i had to bite the bullet and have my local landrover specialist fix the darn thing.. They inspected the entire ACE system and said it would cost near £300 to find out if the system would work or not (the ace pump had been by-passed, and some seals on the pipes were missing, with refilling, checking and laybour - they quoted me £80-£100 per pipe (6 pipes -possibly), £10 per seal, and £700 for a new block if that was faulty) .. They told me that one Disco 2 owner spent £2K putting th whole system right, needless to say i was not willing to head down that road!

I decided I wasn't going to throw stupid money at it, so I ditched the idea of fixing it and went for the standard anti-roll bars conversion.

They also replaced the engine wiring loom, and some bump stops.. nopt cheap to say the least but I didn't have the time to faff with it this week.

I'm happy now the vehicle is at a decent standard and safer, off out for a long trip this weekend, to stretch her legs..

Having had Disco 2's with and without ACE, the ACE ones do handle slightly better, but the standard anti-roll bar version is more than adequate. The age of most Disco 2's now mean that those darned ACE pipes and other components are bound to be in poor condition - if not already replaced.

The way you've gone in my opinion (for what it's worth) is sensible. Mega money for little improvement if you repaired the ACE system.

I'm happy with the disco, I was in Worksop this weekend, snowed quite heavily and the landy never let me down! coped with the slippery road conditions and off road in the forest area, so i have no complaints!.. looking forward to paying the bills and having some cash to mod it slightly

Although I did come close to totaling the landy on Sat, going down the motorway in the near side lane approaching a slip road when I noticed I was gaining on a caravan rather rapidly, with vehicles to both sides and a 44T HGV rapidly approaching from the rear I Ifound the Disco's brakes work well and that a HGV can maneuver rather rapidly, much to my relief.. thankfully my passenger didnt see that danger..needless to say I was papping myself!.. thankfully the brakes work and the horn! (although I think an air horn is required).. God knows what possessed the idiot to stop dead on the motorway :doh::doh:
