Changed gearbox fluid and filter, gave everything a good clean out as the fluid was absolutly filthy (worse than the original) even though it was changed about 1500 miles ago and added a bottle of Lucas transmission fix. Went for a 100 mile run to get it circulating and the box is a bit better, occasional slight flaring changing from 3-4 but does seem to be getting less, when I dipped the box at the end of the run fluid was still cold and I have the spot lamps fitted. With the condition of the fluid that came out I am going to change it again in a 1000 miles. Did not drop the valve block as the electrical connection was very tight and did not want to risk breaking it at this time of year but next time will drop the front prop shaft to gain better access to the plug. Hopefully will continue to get better, the rest of the changes are instant and smooth.

Seems like you because its so filthy something isn't quite right with the box, so its a good idea to change it at lest 2 if not 3 times to get the swarf and muck out, then keep a careful track on it, and anyway its almost impossible to get it all out on one or 2 changes, but the good thing is it seems to be improving so your on the right track anyway

Lucas is a very good company,with great R&D. All oil products biggest supporter of off road racing, sponsor off the professional tractor pulling association and Semi truck racing. They have nascar car, indy and F1 cars were they use for actual testing of there products. And they make some very good diesel fuel additives also tested in the Arctic. So very good company/products

lol F/T youre showing you heritage there , the joke was that lucas uk ie the electronics manuafactuer of a lot of landy bits for one thing (known by most as the black hole of electronics or summit) who are ****e shares the same name with youre yankee lucas who make nice oil and liquid products. you should know this by now if youre coming over tut tut

Nowhere near as bad the pierburg carburettors fitted to some early Golfs (their attempt at "clean" engines pre EFI), the autochoke and vacuum fuel shut-off was always going tits up!

Well she seems to be getting better by the day, just the occasional flare going from 3-4 which feels like a 1 second delay, pulling 80 uphill so no slip and the other gear changes are great so a couple more flushes and if all well am going to change the cooler and steering pipes as they look pretty corroded. I used some in paste form on my Series II overdrive, was whining all the time, absolutely deafening it was, slap of moly paste and all was fine

Never ever put Molislip in a gearbox with needle roller layshaft bearings, it makes them skid and destroys them.

well I have had it in my overdrive now for at least 3 years, and have done a lot of miles, dont know how many since I did it but its a lot, and its fine for me, having said that its old technology so maybe its because of that its still going??

Unless you have no needle rollers in your OD. Or they have refined the formula, because it was deadly for needle roller layshafts when it first came out. Did dozens of layshaft replacements because of it. I am talking gearboxes in the sixties.

Yea it has a cog that is made up with roller bearings, but when they are new you get a small sachet of the stuff to put on them and you squirt the stuff on the cog and fit it, comes with it and its recommended for it

They must have Mad, it was deadly in gearboxes. Factory bulletins warned against it and said if it was used warranty was void.

it is and was as synchros need to strip enough oil off to grip cone for selection gear oil has to have more than lubricative properties baulk rings are designed with oil in mind,plus after stripping many boxes oil changes is alll thats needed

Quite possibly in some cases with baulk rings, removing Molyslip would work. But it used to destroy needle roller layshafts by making the bearing skid instead of rolling.
