I bought my led's from maplins, I had to solder on resistors though.
You can buy 12v leds that don't need resitors, but they cost more money.

I was using either 8 or 5v and had to use protective resistors in my exam project for electronics. Yeh I think it's to steady the current maybe. If you can get them that just plug in then bingo! I didn't kno they had them. Definately getting some for my dash tho.

Kinda depends on what LED's you get

One for each as I recall...... the clock is a bit of a bugger though mine where soldered in flat geen things that can't be replaced.

I was referring to the different type of fittings on their auction photograph, not in reference to the type of bulb being filament or led
other posts seem to say the bulbs are standard 501's but their pic shows 501's and other fitting by the looks of it?

I presume it must be a generic image of the differing types and not vehcile specific

The ones I bought from maplins all blew!!
Bought pre wired 5mm leds from ebay, still going strong.
I drilled out the green lens, very very carefully!
They are nice and bright now.

Or just fit the later gauges and binnacle from a Td5:

As well as 1000-times better lighting you also get a nice steady speedo needle, a smoked LED warning light panel, and backlit heater controls. Purdy

Of course there's a lot more work involved than simply fitting some brighter bulbs or LEDs to the standard gauges, but the finished look is a lot better in my opinion.

Then the bulbs are most likely blown. Take the binnacle off and you'll see the wires going to the back of the heater control logos, bulbs are 1.2W capless (ref. 286).

How many bulbs are needed to replace all the gauges,
2 in the speedo, one in the fuel gauge and 1 in the temp?
Are they all 286 bulbs or are the speedo ones 501?

Yep as you say:
2 in speedo
1 in fuel gauge
1 in temp gauge
1 in clock (if fitted)

Fitted 12v capless led's in my dash and they make a BIG difference at night

My speedo backlight partially went out the other day when I was driving on the A12. Luckily, the portion from 0-70 mph still illuminates.

I'm never going to go above 60 in it anyway, so sod it.
