I only heard about this the other day on another threadwhat does it do ? Stating the obvious it damps harmonics but what are the symptoms of a buggered one ? as I do get a vibration from about 1500- 2250 revs

A harmonic damper is a device fitted to the free (accessory drive) end of the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. It is essential in engines with long crankshafts (such as straight-8 engines) and is present on most engines as it reduces torsional vibrations that tend to peak at certain speeds.

Ooh that would be like a grating, whining noise that occurs at all speeds then

There is a vibration damper fitted to discovery 1 and it looks like a black wheel thats attached to the mount that the steering damper uses
