Dear All,

Just removed an old hands-free kit from my 99 TD5 GS. A complicated little blighter but, after a bit of poking around, removed without problems. Strangely, it's power connection was to the interior fuse board and by a couple of spade terminals shoved into where (the manual showed) a relay (the one with the engine symbol and flash) should be.
All the electrics, apart from the non-parking wipers which I had a vague hope might be due in some way to this strange installation, seem to work. Do we then not really need this relay? Is it in some way optional? Clearly the original phone installer was happy to tap in there and whether or not they removed a relay to do so, I know not.
The wipers still won't auto-park.

The relay you're referring to (R4) is only used on V8 vehicles - it's for the ignition system.

Tapping into the relay base to power accessories, is often done by owners of TD5 vehicles.

Your non-parking wipers are probably due to a faulty park switch in the wiper motor.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Wipers. I must have searched and exhausted all the discussions on these and expect it must be the motor parking switch at fault. I was just hoping that someone might say "oh yea it's a bad connection on... etc" especially as, when I asked at the main agents, they said "well it's probably the motor but we have had one in with that fault and, after much time, couldn't cure it"
Encouraging isn't it.

Unlike the Defender, Land Rover don't list a Park Switch separately

In fact, they don't even sell the Wiper Motor separately

The Motor and Spindles/Linkages are referenced separately in the parts book (Callouts #2 and #3), but they are both listed as 'NSS' (Not Serviced Separately), so you have to buy the complete mechanism (callout #1), Part No. DKD100620 (for RHD), at a cost of £135
