Today's thre first chance I've had to have a good look at my S3. It comes complete with front lamp guards, which are not currently fitted. The wings have been drilled as they have been used until quite recently. Can I fit them back on using self tapping screws? Is that the method anyway? Small nuts and bolts are an alternative but will be fiddly to access from the inside the wing.

Are self tapping screws best?

Yeah self tappers will work

Can always put a locking plate behind them as well if you really want

Same goes for rear ones, self tappers are all you need (not got a locker plate on mine btw)

My series 3 had light guards on it when I had it. Not sure if they were factory fitted ones but they had natty little clips on. Two on top, two along the bottom, so you could just unclip them to change bulbs etc. presumably.

Maybe a lightguard supplier offers a fitting kit with similar fitment, but I remember the little female part of the clip system being riveted to the wings.

What a pain. The holes in the wings are a bit agricultural and the largest diameter self tapping screw I can find is 6mm, which isn't wide enough. I really need 7 or 8mm x 25mm to get a secure fit for the light guards. Any suggestions where I can find self tappers of this width or any other methods of fitting light guards to an S3? Most DIY places seem to stock 6mm x 25mm as their largest.

A Stanley Heavy Duty Riveter

I have the same one, a very useful tool, I can set up to 8mm rivnuts without extending the handles.
I have used a number of the rivnuts around clyde, for number plates etc.....
