Hi, im 14 years old and i have a interest in landrovers, my parents have owned 4, a 1985 verticle grille v8 range rover classic manual, a 2002 4.0 ES Disco auto, a v6 2.5 freelander 1face lift auto and a 2.0 td4 freelander face lift auto.

We used to live in Bahrain (arabian gulf) where petrol was cheap, insurance was cheap, no MOT, we had our petrol cars out there but we moved back to the UK this year and bought a td4 freelander and hope to get the rangerover classic back home.

I hope to own a seires 3 landrover lightweight or a early defender 90, ive looked at insurance prices for both and there about 370pound a month. this is ALOT for me to be paying, is there any way of getting this lower?

Also for the time being i wanna know what a 14 year old guy can do as a landy fan?

Oh and also i started driving the 3.5 classic since i was 12 off road and i enjoy it a lot.

Don't describe yourself as a student as an occupation. If you have a part-time job give that instead.

I added the Pass Plus, it did not do anything on money supermarket.com, i added my dad on the insurance as well and set my job as a part time mechanic and its 3700Quid a year for a seires 3 lightweight 2.3.

if you set your mileage low around 3000 and go third party fire and theft then Adrian Flux are good.

however you still have atleast 3 years to wait before you can even insure a car of any kind and by that time insurance will be much higher than it is now, considering its gone up on average by 30% so far in 2011 who knows how far it will go

Whoa, its gone down to 2500 still a crap load of money but thats shaved a decent amount off

put in a different occupation, mechanics get stung, put in dental nurse instead.

Also on the comparison sites sometimes if you put in 0 voluntary excess it saves you money (I am unemployed and live a sad existence so have researched this)

ok,i understand your impatience but things will change by the time you are eligable to get insurance anyway.now go and brew up for your mum and dad..brownie points.

With regard to Land Rover hobbies, there is a 14 year old lad on the school bus I drive, who has been given a Series 2 and which is proving to be the best hobby, according to him, that he has ever had. He is concentrating at the moment on getting it running properly and at a later date, when he has 'saved up', wants to re-chassis it on a new galvanised jobby. He's found out that I can make brake pipes etc. and I have just made him a clutch pipe. I have a vague feeling that he will be asking for other items to be either sourced or made but I will certainly do what I can to encourage him.

Well i realize it would be about 500Pound, but what kind of condition would it be in? how much would it cost to get it running well and looking good, dont see how that makes me look dumb..
