Ok, been lurking around here since buying an 02 Discovery 2 v8:) a couple of weeks ago and the time has come to get some of the problems sorted out. Hope you lot can help me, there seems to be ALOT of knowledge floating around this website:D

I changed all the brake disks and pads as soon as I got it (front disks were absolutely ) changed oil and air filter and all seemed ok apart from findng that the front n/s side spring was busted:mad:. Got the spring replaced at a local garage by a man who has had 13 land rovers in his time (so should know what he's doing). Enough of the history, now the problems:confused:

Noise when starting from cold, sounds like it could be the ABS pump running for a couple of seconds:confused:

Very occasional "three amigos" which seem to be worse now that I've checked the rear tyre pressure and upped it from 30psi to the handbook recommended 38psi.

ACE warning light came on for the first time tonight whilst the wife was driving (she didn't say if it was red or amber at the time and can't remeber what colour it was). I have read that this could be the lateral accelerometer mounted above the rear view mirror, and the front sunroof did take a massive leak the other night when the rain really came down (doesn't help that the front sunroof doesn't open:mad:)

So any help gratefully received, and possibly beer money offered for someone who would offer to read the error codes from the ECU;) I'm near junction 6 of the M25.

You would need to expand on the noise thing. Where is it coming from. Whats it sound like etc. The three amigos are well documented on here, but not sure bout tyre pressure thing:confused:. As for the sunroof. Well documented as well, but only fix for me is to get it out, and re seal it round sunroof flange and roof. Thats where it leaks from.

Meego, thanks for the reply.

The noise sounds like it's coming from the rear of the engine when you sit in the drivers seat, and only appears once you've started the engine. The best way I can describe it is like a mobile phone vibrating on a solid surface . It does sound like it's coming from the area of the ABS pump/modulator, is there any reason why I can't disconnect the abs unit whilst I start the engine first thing in the morning to test if it is this? (Obviously I'm not going to drive any where with the ABS disconnected:eek:)

As for the sunroof, I'm planning to get this open as soon as I can to see where the leak could be from, but even if I put an allen key in the motor it won't turn. Just need to find my torx bits now to remove the motor;)

Is it worth resetting everything by disconnecting the battery after getting the suspension fixed? It might set a new default for the suspension?

Lastly, just remebered something else I wanted to ask. I've definitely got a V8 discovery (lifting the bonnet proves that) but when I decode my chassis number the "P" I have for my engine variant comes back as a 2.6L petrol:confused: Is this just an error on the chassis / vin number or does it signify something else?

Sorry I can't help with the other questions you have asked but it is normal for the ABS to make a rattling noise for a couple of seconds as you start up.

Good luck with sorting the other bits

:D So I don't need to worry about the ABS noise. Thanks for the answer, at least it's one less thing to have to fix :clap2:

Just a quick update....

Sunroof. FIXED:D stripped the headlining out and used a tube of glazing sealant on each sunroof to seal them back in. Stripped the front sunroof motor down, cleaned it, and it now works. Now have two sunroofs that both work and DON'T let water in:D:D:D Is this a first for a Discovery:scratching_chin:

Found a friend with a Snapoon diagnostic box, and the only error code it read for the ABS module indicated the shuttle valve wasn't being sensed properly. Have got new switch pack thingy, just need to get round to fitting it and modifying the wiring.

Have to admit, if it wasn't for the combined knowledge imparted on these forums I'd be spending alot more money, and probably not getting anything fixed. So to those of you who take the time to pass knowledge on, THANK YOU:praise:

I think that I would sell mine if not for this forum! Seriously.
