At moment knowledge on 38a is minimal but have looked after and modded my 300tdi disco, so what adjustment it reqd on pump am also going totry fitting one way valve into fuel line.No.
It's normally caused by wear in the pump. You can fit a kit that switches the heaters on every time. You could have your pump refurbished. You could try a little adjustment of your pump. It all depends on your knowledge and your wallet.
fitted the one way valve but no good. next I will run intank pump seperate to glow plugs. if it works then I will try valve beside intank pump. when i cut pipe near filter there was not much diesel in it
Your ****ing against the wind with all these silly fixes. First of all check that the lift pump is actually working. If your getting air into clear pipe from filter to FI pump. It is either spill pipes or O rings in fuel filter inlet outlet. It is unlikely to be the fuel leaking back into the tank. Change the spill off pipes and the O rings. Bleed the system properly. If that does not work. Get the FI pump timing reset, it moves as the chains stretch. Get the injectors serviced.
just a quick one wammers how much does it cost to have injectors serviced, and where can i find somewhere to do it?,my local 4x4 centre does not service injectors but can supply new.

Stretched chains seems like the most plausible explanation in my case (I too suffer from the hot start issue). Do I need to take it to LR to get the inj pump timing reset, or should any diesel engine specialist be up to the task?
I am not interested in any of the bodges, I would like to find the root cause and fix it if poss, if it is the inj timing drifting out for example then presumably that would affect engine efficiency all the time (albeit maybe not by a lot!). My car claims only to have done around 80K miles, does the chain wear enough at this mileage to cause the hot start issue?
BTW regarding the leak off pipes, which seem to be mentioned a lot on here, is the problem that they allow air in or diesel out? There is no smell of leaking diesel from my car, so can I assume they are OK? If not how do I check them?
Cheers,
Jerry
Thanks for all the advice, this is much appreciated, one other problem I have with this car is, after changing the head and gasket the engine now sounds very tappety, any ideas????????? again thanks for your help, its had new oil/filter and diesel filter and new spill pipes.
BURN IT!!
