Hi i have a 300 tdi when its first started all the electrics work fine lights windsceen wipers demisting fans etc after a run out it starts to flaten the battry or so i think ie you carnt use stereo and lights at same time or indecators etc witch does pose a problem on rainy dark nights lol
I have been told it isnt the alternator because the car starts even wen its been stood for a week any help or advice

Would also start with the battery terminals!

An odd one, as it would usually not start. Getting worse once running is just odd - does feel like a loose connection.

Also well worth putting a voltmeter across your battery - should be around 12 - 12.6v without the engine running, 13.5 - 14.5 volts with the engine turning over.

Take it the red ignition light is working, and isn't coming on/flickering when driving/turning on lights etc? If yes, could point to a failing diode in the alternator

hi mate yes wen you have been for a run some times the ignition lights do flicker if battrey is under load ie indecator on as well as sum thing else:doh:

Should be able to find someone local to run a quick alternator check - usually free and takes less than 5 mins

Don't really understand the why, but suspect alternator circuit breaking down as it gets warmer from use.

Could also be slipping fan belt under load, but think you'd hear that, even over the noise of the engine

There is an earth for the wiring loom that mounts in the area of the clutch master cylinder Ii noticed when i was putting my dash back together and this was disconnected the interior fan and other electronics would not run however the fuel pump worked fine. It might be worth checking that earth too.

Have the battery checked out.

Also has the alternator been checked with a volt meter?
