The MoT requires a seat belts textile to be free from:
a. any cut which causes the fibres to separate.
b. fluffing or fraying sufficient to obstruct correct operation of the belt or which has clearly weakened the webbing.
So... if you melt the frayed / fluffed / cut portion of belt with a hot implement so that it no longer is frayed / fluffed and without separating fibres - does it pass inspection, or is that wishfull thinking?
If, while reading this, you think....hmmmmmm 'I happen to have a NS rear seat belt reel from a '97 disco 1, that I really don't need any more and would be willing to flog for a few quid'.... Don't hesitate to shout out
