Hello chaps, recently on a trip to Dorset one of the power steering pipes on my 110 developed a massive leak on the motorway, spewing all of the fluid all over the exhaust manifold and leaving us stranded.

After being brought home on the back of an AA truck, I set about investigating the leak and the high pressure connector has completely sheared, I was able to just pull on the pipe and it came clean away from the pump.

Something to note is that my power steering set-up is not standard - it's a Discovery 200 Tdi in my 110, using pipes made up by a Pirtek hydraulics type company seeing as I couldn't find any Disco pipes at the time.

After stripping down the system I found the offending connector now in two pieces;

Here you can see where it's sheared;

So what I'm asking is; what is this thing, and where can I get another? :D
Does it look like it's been machined by the company specifically for this system or is it a standard part of sorts? I'd like to know the name of it before I go back to the company and ask for another one.

If I can't do anything with the existing pipes I'll be on the lookout for some original Discovery 200 Tdi PAS pipes I spose :( Probably also going to need a new PAS pump as well seeing as it ran without fluid for a while.

Looks like piretek made it to me should be part of the pipe vibration has caused it to break like it has :) Also piretek are fookin expensive for what they do!

Yeah, I reckon they might have overtightened the union nut on it as well when fitting the PAS pump which won't have helped. I suspected it might have been made by them, there are machining marks etc on it. So looks like another trip out to them to see if they can make another one. :doh:

Not sure, it's a 1990 110 if that helps. Used to have the 19j in it.

I think I'm just gonna rip out the pipe they made up and put a proper one in if I can find it. I cba to deal with that company any more! :mad:

Often when you get mobile pipe fitters out they will use copper pipe to make up the hardpipe as its easy to bend. "propa" pipes are definatly the way forward they should put up with the vibration better

I've contacted a few breakers to see if they can supply me the high pressure PAS hose. A Disco 200 Tdi one will fit straight on, only reason I didn't use one when I did the engine conversion was because I bent the bugger trying to remove it! :doh::D

Thanks all for the help fellas, with any luck I'll have the hose within the next few days. ;)

Reet, I've had a good ask around on eBay, not had much luck in sourcing this pipe. Something might turn up but in the meantime I'm off the road... :(

Basically, what I've got is a 1990 110 with a 200 Tdi from a Disco in it. Now I know for sure that the high pressure pipe from the Disco will fit, but is there any other pipe that will fit and work? For example the equivalent pipe from a Defender Tdi, would this fit?

Can anyone tell me the part number of the high pressure pipe (complete) so as I can try and find a new one? :)

Defender one wont work if youve got the disco engine the pumps in a slightly different place with a different fitting if i remember rightly (banjo bolt on the defender)

Much depends on which steering box you have. My 84 110 has the 3 bolt type box - and as such was fed by a much narrower pipe than the newer versions. Getting a pipe that would fit the disco pump...and the 3-bolt box was impossible. I have ended up with a standard disco pipe from the pump - chopped half way - and then a compression fitting to connect to 6mm copper pipe to the box. It works for now....but......:D
