via the expansion tank, as i did last night when topping up the coolant would the excess coolant then be expelled somehow when you next fired up the car.?? Underneath somewhere not out of the cap.

Thats happened to me this morning and i can't work out if i have sprung a leak or whether i put too much in and it has been forced out somehow. Don't know enough about it...

I had the hevac book sign on for a week with the heater/aaircon working perfectly on both sides and no visible leaks so i put some Radweld Plus in last night too, the symbol went off last night but is back on today.

Any ideas?

On most cars there is an overflow pipe out of the side of the neck on the header tank where the pressure cap fits. Any surplus water is expelled through there.

Well I'm hoping that your suggestion is right because it was pure pink coolant that came out and I've been letting it idle for well over half an hour now with no overheating or further visible leaks.

Had a look at the expansion tank and it has no coolant splashed on it and I can see two pipes coming from around the neck of the tank with one of them clipped to the tank and then going straight down so maybe thats what happened. There was some coolant on the shelf under the tank and then some dripping from the bottom of the engine along some pipework so hopfully it has just found its way out that way.

I think item 7 will go to the top of the radiator, and the other un-numbered pipe next to it is the overflow.

If you over fill the expansion tank. It's called that for a reason, any excess coolant will be ejected as the engine warms. Never fill above the MAX fill mark and only fill with engine cold. The expansion tank is there to allow coolant to expand as it warms. Overfill and it has nowhere to go.

Well its not overheating or anything and no more expulsion of fluid that I have seen.

I did the same and the excess exits somewhere at the back of the wheel arch. Funnily tho mine will alwaays end up about an inch and a bit below the max mark on the tank however careful i am. Fed up now with people saying "you need to top up your coolant"
