Hi folks.

I've seen several motors with 'em, and often wondered, but never asked, or felt I've particularly needed them....

The thin steel cable that some have on their motors, saw one at Cowm pay n play today, seen them on expedition vehicles too. Look like they are under tension. two cables, one on each side. Each mounted from front corner of bonnet to top corner of windscreen surround...

What are they for?

It's a genuine question...just wondered out of curiosity

This would've bin better posted in General Landy chat.

The cables are to help push foliage away from yer windscreen when you are in the depths of jungles in foreign climes. Illegal in this country AFAIK.

Sorry Gratch, thought it would be a common question, and didn't quite know where to put it:doh:
Thanks for answering, cheers :)

Glad to know I wouldn't have needed one at Cowm quarry today!
Interesting they could be illegal here tho, as I must've seen 3 or 4 motors around and about this last 6mths. I guess that kinda ain't policed here too much then?

Not until you hit a pedestrian and then you get severely shafted.

Wonder how many peeps took them off after the p+p in a quarry, where they were obviously a neccessity, before driving home on road:rolleyes::D

B&Q, if you really must:rolleyes:. Wire cable, cable clamps, turnbuckles and eyebolts. Don't come crying to me when you get the book thrown at ya when yer cheesewire decapitates someone.

I had the misfortune of seeing what damage a homemade snorkel made to a human body.:puke::puke::puke:

how much battering would any mounting with thing wire take?
Its a limb riser, not a chainsaw/cheesewire hybrid.

I must because I'm fed up of roasting to death because I can't open my window at all without losing an eye.

Did you know there is a temp control knobby thing to control heater temp output....

The wire wont stop the thorn bushes at the track side having a go through your open window either!

Also why use thin wire? Wouldnt a length of rope do same job?

On my 90 I find opening the vents under the windscreen helps. On the disco I find opening the passenger window helps.

i made some today for my disco from 6mm s-steel cable they look good. i see no reason why you couldnt use rope
