It's no good full stop
Carbon will form on injector tips causing white smoking and ruff running until cleaned off.
Burning lubricating oils causes excessive deposits in the cylinders causing piston ring and bore wear.
The burnt additives in the lub oil are abrasive.

And if PC Plod dips the tank and find it you'll loose your car to the nice people a Customs and Excise who will then fine you.

I think the customs and excise thing is that you can't run any fuel on the road that hasn't had the duty paid.
Red Diesel is just one example of duty-not-paid fuel.
Not sure if homebrew biodiesel has some explicit legal exception to this?
Think i read somewhere you can use 2,500 litres of biodiesel a year without paying tax.
black oil is bad full stop..kills the engine and evades tax AND really pollutes..
thats not to say the engine wont run on it..crude diesels will run on just about anything..
if you after saving cash, then as you seem not to care about evading tax then you might as well run red, atleast its good for engine...bio up to 2500l (if you make it) is tax free..but be warned must be well made or that too will rot your engine..(injection pump seals fall to bits etc..)
how do i know?? i am diesel mechanic on everything from transits to 12l v8 scania's plus all plant machinery...seen alot, tried alot... (of different fuels)..and **** fuel is the main killer of injectors pumps etc...not economically viable in the end..ie costs more to fix than savings made...
