How much should I expect to pay for respraying a P38 rear bumper in Epsom Green (i.e. body colour) at a bodyshop?

I had the front one done about a year ago (free, thanks to a muppet in Asda car park) but the rear one now looks very tatty in comparison.

i'd say thats on the very low side. If its already green then gank on £100, if not £180-200

It's already green. It has a little damage - scrapes and a few pock marks, nothing very deep - so will probably need a certain amount of filling/sanding.

I had a quote a couple of years ago to spray (metallic silver) a new rear bumper, and refit the reversing sensors, on my VW Transporter. The quote was from the local VW dealer and came to £400 (including the cost of the bumper and one new sensor).

I am hoping that the P38 will be less than that, given that it doesn't have parking sensors and doesn't need a new bumper. But, then again, it's a P38 so maybe not

OK - went back to the place that did the front bumper (Clarkes at Kibworth) and they quoted £600 to remove, repair, paint and refit the bumper.

So, trundled off to the main LR dealer in Leicester and got a quote for £365, which includes a paint guarantee. Again, this quote was to remove the bumper (not just mask off and spray). The paint alone was £138.

Nooooo!!! If you can take the bumper off yourself and get it to local indy you should get it around £70-80 easy.

If not, call a few local accident repair shops, gotta be way cheaper than stealers!

at that price you may as well have a day out over here, and get the bloody thing done. thats just toooooo much..

cost of paint should only be £40 or so I'd think. couple of hours work to prep and spray. I'd bet someone near you would do it for < £200

Talked to a mate who used to be a mechanic and now works for VOSA, and he recommended a local body shop. Just got a quote for £140 including paint, removal, repair and refit. Price may go up to £150 if the bumper is difficult to get off.

Will post again when the job is done - if it's a good job I guess it's OK to name the body shop?

And a recap of the prices, because I for one cannot believe the difference:

We went to pick up the car today - rear bumper now looks like new.

As well as respraying the bumper, we also asked the guy to put new letters on front and rear (some peeling off, one had already dropped off). Rear now looks like a different car.

Unfortunately, he messed up the front letters. Not only do they gently curve down in the middle (or up at both ends, depending on how you look at it ) but he scratched the paintwork getting the old glue off and either failed to notice or didn't want to notice before he put the new letters on. :doh:

So, car is still with him. He said he was going to try Colour Magic, and if this didn't get rid of the scratches the only other option was a full bonnet respray (and presumably another set of front letters...). Now waiting for his phone call.

Turns out the scratches were only in the lacquer, so he sorted it by buffing and polishing.

He had to take the letters off, though - so at the moment the RR looks a bit chavvy. New letters are on order.

Any ideas how to get the new letters on so they look straight? Apparently they come with some tracing paper, but following this to the letter (geddit?) resulted in the curved appearance which just does not look right.
