first of all am a newby to all this but no some things got a disco 2.5 tdi auto an it stays in fourth gear an wont go into 5th been told it could be the gear box fluid or some thing LOL thanks for your help great site any advice would be helpful thanks.

Check gearbox oil... (it's the dip stick on the drivers side by the windscreen) engine at normal temp, handbrake on and in drive... check fluid level on dip stick... only need 250ml from min to max. Do not overfil!

get on that in the mornin an get back to you also how much would i be lookin at to get it raised seen a super Gaz +40mm suspension kit for £230 think this is fair but would it make a big diffrence thanks

It won't make ya GB change up to 5th! lol

Lifts can cause as many probs as they solve (if any) ... may be better spending money on a set of good off road tyres! have a search for lift kits on here... will be loads of advice.

Doesn't matter how much fluid u have in the gearbox u won't be able to get a 5th gear as u don't have one, all D1s and 2 autos are 4 speed.

Could it be that the torque converter isn't kicking in at 50ish mph?
I don't know, just a suggestion.

Yea, mine goes in at about 46-48 mph. feels like a fifth... but not really.

thanks for all your help ile have a look at the torque converter and are you sure a land rover has only 4 gears because it doesnt sound too good on a motorway harr harr

the last gear change you feel is lock up or direct drive where torque convertor through a clutch inside locks up and gives you straight through drive they are 4 speed boxes
