Just bought my first Defender. The previous owners had removed the section behind the seats to install a very heavy metal (homemade 6mm steel)fuel tank which fitted perfectly between the rear seat boxes/wheel arches.

Unfortunately the wife is not for having this in the cabin. So I've had to remove it. Now I'm wondering whether I need to rebuild some/all of the section behind the seats to re establish some cabin rigidity....

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

re fit the bar or buy a proper one there are several companies that make them. MUDSTUFF been the commonest or replace the entire rear tub.

yep - is the entire section gone ?

there's a bar you can buy to replace it but it'd not be a good idea to leave it out

Upload a picture as well as it may already have the bar on place.

Thanks for all the feedback.

There is a "bar" between the two sides. It looks like a section of old roll cage thats been salvaged. Its in two pieces joined by some steel pipe and self drilling bolts.

Of the bulkhead bars suggested only the rimmer bros version looks like it could work. 400 notes more than I wanted to spend. Heigh ho. I cant find anyone who supplies a "rear tub replacement panel" should I be looking for something else?
