Hello Peeps,

I have got my SIII 88 in bits (little bits and a chassis :doh And I am fixing up various parts like the tub and firewall, before the reassembly stage .

There is white corrosion stuff on some parts of the panels mainly where nuts bolts and screws have gone though.

The Question, is short of cutting out the bits what is the best way of curing these areas???

Wire brush, Acid etch primer or plate it if the holes are too big

So does the acid etch stop further rot like say KURUST does on steel?

And do you have to remove all the white stuff?

Acid etch just bonds to the Aluminium alloy like an oxide bonds to steel, so in that respect yes - but it doesnt stop further corrosion any more than Kurust does.

All corrosion must be removed prior to priming and repainting.

Ah read somewhere's that ye shouldn't use a wire brush on alluminium as the steel in it can make it worse. Try usin' one o' them black bubbly type pad things or just some good old elbow grease and some paper... or ah think ye can get the nylon type wheels fur yer grinder

very good point BB - of course u can get wire brushes in materials other than steel - but one of those pads would be better still .

Aye, 'tis what ah used when ah found out about thum (the black bubbly type pads that go on the grinder)... before that it was just elbow grease

As long as they're not too course... cuts intae the alluminium if ye'r not carefull

You could pop rivit a repair panel to a section where a few holes have gone from 1/8" to 1" like on my series, rivits are accetable in series's bodywork as its not structural.
