Probably a silly one but...

Is it ok to tow a Sankey trailer with a Pin hitch as opposed to a Nato hitch?

I've got a combo hitch (Pin & ball) fitted to my 90.

I dont think the NATO ring will fit a normal pin hitch. May be wrong though.

no it wont the nato ring is too thick and wont fit the gap on a pin hitch

just went and tried it.... the ring will fit in the gap but ye can't get the pin down through it

thats wot i ment when the pins down the gap behind it aint big enuff for the ring its too fick..

Yes a nato hitch with 50mm ball on top is available.

Someone told me they're 40mm thick.
The throat on my combi hitch is 32mm- Not enough.

So has anyone got one of these? Seen anyone else with one?
Are they any good?
Don't want a cheap inferior alternative to the Nato but also need to use a ball hitch too. I have a height adjustable drop plate fitted. Just thinking of fitting this to the plate instead of the ball & pin already fitted.

if ya bothered about strength get a 2nd drop plate and fit a normal ball hitch to it.

Those combined ball and jaw couplings in your link are fixed and aren't able to rotate.

This is fine if the ring on your trailer rotates, as only one half of the combined coupling should rotate - it doesn't matter if it's the vehicle hitch or the trailer ring -

Both Fixed = BAD

Both Rotating = BAD

One Fixed/One Rotating = GOOD


The simplest way to be able to tow 76mm NATO Ring and 50mm Ball with the same vehicle is to do as RedHand has said -

Get another slider - have one fitted with a proper NATO Hitch and the other one with a 50mm Ball.

iv got a dixon bate pin hitch on the front of the 90 that i push the sankey about with and a nato on the back , the bradley towin eye is a lot smaller and wont fit,

thers a nato with a 50mm ball on top available too, have a look on the dixon bate website , ther no way cheap tho .

only tow a sankey with a nato hitch and a HD one at that

Have got a 2nd hand (refurbished) Nato hitch sorted. Collect it tonight.
Just got 2 get the bolts undone now
