Most CB Radios run on 12 and or 24 volts, the legal maximum power output is 4 watts, That dosent mean you cant get more wattage latter but there really is no point!

You need 2 basic functions! Squelch And Mic Gain!

Squelch, reduces background noise but also reduces listening range at the same time, turn it till its just silent with no transmission and your good for 3-4 miles listening! Mic gain is how sensitive your mic is to sound usefull if you wish to hold it to your mouth!

Dont worry about UK\EU 80 channel in the UK standard there are 40 channels most people hang around on CH19 and bugger off to another channel when you want to talk the other 40 is for europe same 40 channels different frecuency! Like a high low box in the disco:)

Pretty much anything else are just playbits some are usefull some arnt once again personal choice!

Best advice is on your arial Buy big! The more height you have the better the range!

I have a Moonraker FA5000 with a Trucker 80 arial on a Turbo Magmount!

You need a CB, Mic and Arial, mount your CB in the car plug in your mic and arial and away you go! (you should SWR your arial but not essensial if a pre tuned arial 90% are)

How you fasten the arial to the car is personal choice i use a Mag Mount as i took it off my Scania before i retired from trucking!

There isnt any difference really in em, they all kick out 4 watts or there abouts, midland do some good cheap ones, i use Lymm Truckstop for most CB stuff they have a bit of everything and are really good if it breaks Lorrybits.com,CB,Truck Products,CB accessories,CB Radio, midland CB Radio, truck. CB Radio Starter Kits

Hope this helps somewhat!

I was wondering about this, as I only use mine for laning I have only bought a mini stinger with 7" magmount. The plan was with a big mag and smaller anntenae it would be less likely to be removed by low branches etc.

Am I going to have problems with this or will it be ok for signal strength while laning?

It wont matter as your all only a few hundred yards apart, it will only matter when your getting into miles apart i have a 5ft one mainly because i use mine to talk to anyone and picks farmers up great in the country,

And as for been removed by branches does this happen???

i had a 5ft arial on a 13 cab roof and often hit bridges at 30 40 mph and never lost or broke one!

Have never lost an aerial from my roof but have read a few posts on here about some lanes that have knocked mag mounts off. I needed to replace mine and figured a mini springer is less likely to come off being smaller and lighter while still using the mount for bigger aerials.

As long as its ok for laning (had a feeling I was going to be taking it back for a full size springer) :)

My large mag mount with 5' ariel had been knocked off a few times on some lanes .. now changed it for this ... ;)
