Can any one tell me what the sensor on the top of the block on a 300tdi engine does. The sensor this fitted virticaly into the block.

It depends whether it's a manual or auto TDi 300

Ok Mike, assuming yours is an EDC car, the sensor you refer to is a temp sensor that informs the ECU of coolant temp and is used in the cold start procedure.
