I am looking at a new galvanised Brownchurch roofrack (£400 +vat) I think it looks fine on a white or light grey rather than a black coated one.
My only concern is how it will look after a while... will it tarnish badly?
At the end of the day I will want to fit something like marine plyboard so it can be walked on, maybe even throw a cheap pop up tent on

What do you think... value for money or should I dig deeper? Am I likely to pick up a good deal at one of the shows? Any recommendations appreciated

Mine came with the vehicle and would say it must be at least 6 years old (vehicles 10 years old) It still looks alrite, its a duller than a new one not a spot of rust on it. Bloody heavy though!

I got mine for about 120 quid small one from paddocks cant knock it been bashed straightened and all sorts. Brownchurch is probably the dogs go nads for a working landy othereise patriot if you want to spend a fortune for a lightweight tarty one!

Galv ones are mega tough, but mega heavy, and not too pretty. You can use Phenolic Board for the Deck on the rack (trade name such as Buffalo Board) Its a ply with patterned textured board on top and bottm, so a bit less slippery, and a bit harder wearing.

If you're after looks, then the genuine LR roof rack is big, strong and looks a bit better

Landy Roofs has a low load rating when using a roof rack if you keep to LR Specs. From memory its 2 full jerry cans which should be about 40 odd kilos. Obviously it can take more but I wouldn't want too much up there.

Nope it's called disregarding the manufacturers recommendations. Most of which are set by lawyers so ya can't sue LR when the sides of ya landy bend or the gutter snaps off, when ya hit corrugations in the middle of africa

Well a 'genuine' roofrack is too pricey for what it is.... the Brownchurch seems value for money against home made ones on ebay and the other extreme of Patriot stuff. Thanks for the advice

I've got an original Brownchurch galvanised roof rack for my 110 which had been on it for years and years and years, but still looks as good as new.

Unless they have reduced their quality in some way, I should think it will look great for a long time.

if you want it black just get a special metals primer, slop it on and then paint over it with hammerite. sorted
