chock front wheels, hand brake off and jack rear-grab the prop and turn both ways you will be able to tell slop in both transfer box rear output and rear diff about 1/8th of turn acceptable.
Do the same with front.
you will need all 4 wheels off the ground to fully test transfer box slop

we have always done that(provided your jack has a nice wide foot mine about 4 inches(garage jack with rubber foot)
Or the rear arm bushes and a piece of wood/ply

Thank you guys , well fanatic anyway :p Si

Good night, missus is demanding attention!

Bloody eck i've had this problem for 2 months thought i was being lazy by just leaving it

Suppose the jack and axle stands will be in use tommorrow

I go away for 5 mins and come back to all this abuse, honestly lol

How come yours is doing it, had you box rebuilt or just bad luck?

Yes I am lazy when it come to jackin that giant fooker up, but I have probably only done 300 miles in that time at a push:mooning:

that sounds almost right, the 300 miles and a push :hysterically_laughi
and if i did not give you abuse you would think i wanted something.

Fett, clonking could be worn A frame bushes and/or ball joint, assuming of course you have checked out front suspension bushes, prop UJ's and you're reasonably happy it isn't front or rear diff.

that would mean getting under the car Kev. not a hope of that happening.

I spent nearly every day for a month under there when I bought it , not like you with you spray on tetroseal lol :p

I actually wire brushed and epoxied the while uderside of the car after cutting and welding in about 500kg of new steel!

Anyhoo you cheeky fook I am still waiting for Stuart to send me a stepper to try before I go to all that hassel!

Kev I gather you are wating for a bonnet cable too???

I did have a go at jacking it up but getting all 4 wheels off ground was a bit  with a £15 trolley jack and 1 bottle jack, so put it back down which is why im still here able to type.

Mine just seems to clonk on the downshift into 2nd and 1st but smooth up shifts until the torque converter locks up which causes a bit of a jerk. Also when stationary it will rock the car when going between R. N. D.

Not had gearbox rebuilt think everything is original on it ( p38 DSE) 118,000 miles so something has a bit of a right to play up but what part is it:confused::confused:
