how do i know if vcu unit is knackered

as a complete novice iwas hopin someone could give a description of what to look or listen for , if i new how to check and test it i would have ,hence then i wouldnt not have had to ask

Searching for the tipex test should get you a few results with how to test it. However some have stated that even if it appears ok with this test it can still be knackered.

My personal test is to go somewhere very muddy, and get the front wheels spinning, which in turn gets the rear ones spinning too. If drive goes to your rear wheels ok it should be ok i think.

You might want to wait until someone with a bit more knowledge of VCU's than me can clarify this.

Jack one rear wheel off the ground, handbrake off and chock front wheels, try and turn the rear wheel, it should turn but with resistance. An 18 inch bar on a wheel nut should turn the VCU indicating that the torque required to turn the wheel isn't as much as to tighten the wheel nut. Bear in mind you should try and turn the wheel gently, it's no good stamping on the bar, just gentle moderate pressure.......

And this test wont work if your in mondo mode

removed back end of prop and car is running smooth is it ok to leave it like this

not in ireland it isn't.

sounds like a wind up, but tis true. In Ireland, you cannot remove the rear prop and continue to use the vehicle, and it certainly won't go through the Irish version of the MOT.

Wont harm the vehicle though, might make it a bit scrabbly if you pull away hard, and it will handle differently.
