    P38A Fuel pump timing chain

Thanks for the reply. When I line it up with the six on the FIP sprocket, the keyway is not quite at 12'O clock but about one tooth out. Can you confirm this. Sorry to be a pain but just don't want to pull it apart and get it wrong and then have to do it again. Manual is not very clear at all.

    P38A Fuel pump timing chain

Not to worry, I served 20 years with BMW but these engines came in just before I changed tack so did not get that involved with them. The pump is fitted but I'm not sure that the FIP sprocket was in the correct position(the woodruff keyway). I have stripped off the front cover of the old engine...

    P38A Fuel pump timing chain

So the woodruff key should be at the 12 O Clock position? Will I have to remove the timing cover to correct this or can I perhaps jiggle it into the correct position?

    P38A Fuel pump timing chain

Just fitted a second hand engine to my Diesel P38 2.5 which came minus the fuel pump. I do not know if the engine was turned while the pump was removed and need to check that the fuel pump sprocket is in the correct position. I can not find this info in the manual and wondered if anyone can...

Need a early V8 Dizzy( Non serp type)

I have fitted the early non serp type engine in my Disco (1998) but the engine came without a distributor. The original one will not drive the oil pump as it is from the serp engine. Any one know which model I need or has one lying about??? Thanks.

    Immobiliser???

Right, I found the little sod that was causing the problem and it is an updated spider that comes in a round steel tube, mounted where the old one was. I cut it open and the circuit board looked burnt. I got it to acknowledge the key fobs but it still would not energise all the circuits so I put...

    Immobiliser???

I found the Land Rover fitting guide, so tomorrow I will strip out the interior and have a look see what is going on. Hopefully it is a supply fault and I won't have to remove it all. There has been a right butcher under the bonnet and I don't mean me!

    Immobiliser???

Thanks for the replies. The standard remote fob is working fine but this is another LandRover Immobiliser above the remote one fitted by LandRover whereby you have to hold the key above the steering cowl for a few seconds but there is no response from it. May have to remove it and just keep the...

    Immobiliser???

I have a 1998 Disco V8 auto which has an additional Land Rover Engine Immobiliser using a Green fob and Gold Fob. The car has been standing for the best part of a year and now that I want to get it running again, there is no response from the Additional immobiliser. The instructions say to hold...

Thread sizes on oil cooler pipes

Subsequent to my recent posts, do any of you clever people know what size threads are on the oil cooler connections which are on the early V8 engines fitted into the early Range Rovers ie not Serpentine engines which have a different fitting? I have found someone who keeps the fittings but I...

Replacing Serpentine engine 3.9 with NON serp

Thanks for all your replies and ideas. I have the engine already fitted into The Disco and am somewhat reluctant to remove it again. I think I will carry on fitting this(old style) engine but keep all the good Serp parts from the old engine just in case I really, really have to remove it again...

    Engine Oil cooler pipes

So, I have a non Serp engine in my Discovery(3.9 V8) and the oil lines from the oil pump housing to the radiator oil cooler are giving me a headache. Everyone seems to have Serp type but not the type I need. Anyone got a clue as to what to use. I know I can get some made up but I need both my...

Replacing Serpentine engine 3.9 with NON serp

Hi, Can anyone confirm that a Serpentine engine, which I had to take out of my Disco can be replaced with a NON Serpentine engine and I can switch the timing case, oil pump, pulleys etc to make the Non Serp engine into a Serp? If you get my drift. I understood that the Crankshaft was slightly...

Replacing 3.9 Engine with non Serpentine??

Really! I understood that the crankshaft on the serp has a shorter nose on it so that it would not go through the timing cover. That is great news if that is correct. Thanks very much.
