power steering high pressure hose leak

well I think it's sorted, my own stupid fault for being a cheapskate! My defender has a 200tdi Discovery engine, power steering pump is an NTC8288.I looked around and a replacement was about the £160 mark cheapest I could find. I found a post online somewhere that said you could swap the...

power steering high pressure hose leak

Hi Gents, I have a 1990 Defender with a 200tdi Discovery engine fitted. I just changed the power steering pump, when I ran the engine for the first time power steering fluid was pouring out of the high pressure hose connection at the pump. The pump is a NTC8288 I believe. The end of the high...

    creaking rear tailgate!!

thanks for advice - maybe it just sounds like the tailgate but it's coming from mounts or bushes...I'll have a look later. Think the rear body mounts are ok though, the rear crossmember was replaced by previous owner and I think the body mounts were done at the same time as they appear to be in...

    creaking rear tailgate!!

Hi Gents, My 1995 3 door has developed an annoying "creak" from the rear in the last couple of weeks, just thought I would post in case anyone else has suffered this and found the reason! Every time I go over a bump there is a creaking noise from the rear, sounds like the tailgate. It's not...

    wide arches but not lifted

My arches came from M&M 4x4. They were a bit pricey as I went for the ABS plastic ones - you can get sets on Ebay for about £80 but they are in fibreglass and not so resilient.

    wide arches but not lifted

Some pics of mine. Wheels are 16 x 8 steel modulars with a 35mm negative offset. The offset is important, this will put the wheel/tyre nicely in line with the outside edge of the extended arch, and also means you will not have to faff around with spacers or altering steering stops...

    wide arches but not lifted

funnily enough I just did this,I need to take some pictures but will do over the next couple of days. I'm really impressed with how it turned out, looks awesome and no unwanted side effects. You'll need to cut a good chunk out of the side of your standard front bumper (if thats what you have)...

    rear shock query

Hi - I recently changed my rear shocks to SuperGaz type. For the upper mounting the rear shock came supplied with two tapered half bushes, I inserted them into the eye of the shock, bolted it all up and have experienced no problems. But, I noticed that on the old shocks that I threw away, there...

    changing shocks and springs

Thanks Dieseldog - vice grips did the trick. Clamped them on so tight I nearly gave myself a hernia as I knew my first attempt would probably be my best shot, and it worked fine both sides. I think knowing you are doing the right thing means a little more commitment is applied! I think I'm...

    changing shocks and springs

Thanks for the advice gents, thought I might have missed something simple, but sounds like brute force one way or another will be the answer....as is often the case! Cheers, Pete

    changing shocks and springs

Hi Gents - thought I would fit a new set of springs and shocks as the ones on my 95 Disco 1 are quite tired and corroded. Watched a few videos on YouTube and it looked easy enough! Spent a few days soaking all the nuts and bolts I knew I would have to remove with release agent like a good boy...

    doors and dash queries

Hi Gents, just after a bit of advice on two points for my 95 3 door 300tdi; 1./ I have a couple of problems with passenger door, frame and external window seal in poor condition and latch is knackered. I'm thinking the easiest fix is to swap the door with one in better condition from a...

Wife's complaint about the gear change on my 300tdi.

my gearbox was really sloppy and difficult to get selection (1995 300tdi), I'm no mechanic but using info on this forum I took the console out and changed the bias plate/springs for new. Finding gears is now pretty good, massive improvement. I still have a little notchiness or resistance as I...

    Headlining re-trimmed with Veltrim

Fixing up a 1995 3 door Disco at the moment, headlining was in a disgraceful saggy state and had to get sorted. Saw the posts on here which showed some being painted....was tempted, but decided to go the Veltrim route in the end. Couple of hours on the decking this afternoon in the sunshine...

    Retro fitting roof rails

Hi - just wondered if anyone has retro fitted Discovery 1 roof rails before, and can advise what size holes I need to drill in my roof? I thought this would be a straightforward task (!!) - the mounting points are located internally at the correct centres, so I thought I would just drill upwards...
