    1999 P38 immobiliser/BeCM

I dunno - Richard could tell you. He connected his Rovacam, re-set some stuff, and it was fixed.

    1999 P38 immobiliser/BeCM

Just to close this one off, I got Richard at Callrova to come out and put his Rovacom on it, sorted it out inside 10 mins, all good now. Extremely helpful and friendly guy, even came out on a Sunday to do it.

    1999 P38 immobiliser/BeCM

It was yesterday I checked it, but I think it was 12.67v (or something in that area). It was definitely more than 12.5v. I'm pretty sure the battery's good.

Yes, just over 12v with ignition on.

    1999 P38 immobiliser/BeCM

Yes, he's done that, and I also had the jump leads on from another car at one point just to make sure. No difference.

Definitely a GEMS. Has the rectangular bit on the top of the throttle body/intake with '4.0' marked on it - top picture in this link; http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/Basic-Bits/P38engines.html Thanks for the input though.

Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated. 1. Yes, I'll see if anyone else chips in. 2. I've seen 'Rick the Pick' on similar threads when I searched, I'll maybe drop him a PM. He does seem to know his stuff on this subject. 3. Thanks for the offer, genuinely appreciated, but it's a lot to...

    1999 P38 immobiliser/BeCM

Mid Sussex is an area in West Sussex, covering East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill (it's actually the name of the local District Council area). More specifically, the car's near Haywards Heath. Any comments on the Range Rover problem?

    1999 P38 immobiliser/BeCM

Hi, This is a friends car, so I don't know much about Range Rovers (although I did download the EAS tool, make up a lead and re-set his EAS for him a few months ago - but that's the limit of my RR experience). It's a 1999 4.0, I believe it's the GEMS engine. He came back to the car after a...

Coolant exploded all over engine bay!!

I hated the Disco when we first bought it. I had to do so much work on it in the first few months - changed oil cooler, head gasket, then head when gasket didn't fix it, numerous suspension bushes, steering etc, even welding on the rear chassis rails! Now it's pretty much where I want it (apart...

Coolant exploded all over engine bay!!

Maybe your oil cooler's failed, pumping engine oil into the coolant system. Oil cooler is bolted on to the side of the block underneath the turbo - sits in the water jacket. Corrodes pretty quick if the wrong mix of coolant/water not used. Happened to me...

    Disco 2 Ignition switch

Almost exactly how I fixed the exact same snag. Buying a new key is so complicated/expensive, I'd avoid it if you possibly can. Use some sort of spray cleaner (carb cleaner maybe?) to get all the old sticky/dirty crud out of there, then re-lubricate - I just used some light grease. I...

    vague steering on discovery 2

Mine had vague steering when I first got it, cured by adjusting the steering box (there is an adjuster on top of the box, look down into the RHS of the engine bay, below the intercooler/inlet pipe). But mine was just that - vague. Yours sounds a bit more complex than that, but it's maybe worth...

    TD5 Steering lock

    What spacers, where?

    TD5 Steering lock

Maybe - ours has the 16", his has the bigger ones - I thought they were 17's but maybe they are 18's. But why would the steering stops be different - his bigger wheels have lower profile tyres, so overall size should be the same?

    TD5 Steering lock

Just got back from a skiing trip in France with the family, and another family (good friends of ours). We were staying in the same house, and the layout of the drive meant a very sharp turn out on to the road in the morning. His car (2002 facelift TD5) could get of of the drive and straight up...

Just when all seemed well; loadsa oil in header tank

I don't think you can blame the designer, I've no doubt these things work perfectly if they live in the environment they were designed for - blame the clown who filled it up with water instead of the correct coolant & corrosion inhibitor. Picture of mine: In the depression in the middle of the...

Just when all seemed well; loadsa oil in header tank

Yes, you do have to unbolt the aircon pump - I tried to avoid it, but couldn't (can't quite remember why now). But it's no big deal.

Just when all seemed well; loadsa oil in header tank

Happened to mine in the summer - oil level going down, lots of oil in header tank. Almost certainly oil cooler. Take it off, if it's all pitted, even if you can't actually see the hole, it'll be there. If it's not all pitted, start looking elsewhere. Easy enough job, although you'll have to...

Anyone had problems with specific head gaskets?

It was Turner Engineering themselves who told me they no longer bother pressure testing Td5 heads - They reckon that if there's any doubt, they're knackered. Anyhow, one second hand head later, and all is now good. Running better than it ever has (since we've owned it anyway). Difficult to see...
