    TD4 Auto smoking

I have an X Reg TD4 Auto which has decided to blow out huge clouds of blue smoke when running at lowish speeds upto 30mpg round town. Not necessarily from cold. I was out yesterday and after engine warmed up after short drive about 3 miles, went into shop, then restarted it and plumes of blue...

"Clunking" noise for TD4 Auto X Reg

Hi guys, This damn "clunking" noise is still happening, all the 3 rear diff mountings have now been replaced along with the rear prop inc VCU. This irritating clunk only happens when the auto box is going up gear from 2nd to 3rd gear, not normally downgear but it does not happen all of the time...

"Clunking" noise for TD4 Auto X Reg

Thanks for all your comments, but the rear diff mounts have already been replaced along with the VCU and new rear prop shaft quite recently. Nodge 68 you said it may be the lower engine tie bar gone soft, whereabouts is this and how to I know if it need replacing and is this like an engine...

"Clunking" noise for TD4 Auto X Reg

I have a bad "clunking" noise which usually happens when the vehicle is changing gear (auto box). It does'nt do it all the time through all the gears but it has started to do it more often and I am very concerned about it, as I use the LR daily and do motorway trips monthly. A chap at KwikFit...

    Rear Diff Mount.

Its when I turn sharply round corners i was getting a "clunking" sound, which was caused when the centre mount rubber split in the middle causing a lot of play in the diff and rear axle. Yes, the mount just replaced was from Landrover, so is a quailty part. I shall just see how this 3rd one now...

    Rear Diff Mount.

I have had the centre rear axle diff mount replaced 3 times in 6 months and each time the rubber bush inside splits and the mount fails causing a lot of play in the rear prop and a clunking noise when going round corners etc. I have recently had the rear prop and VCU replaced but the problem...

    TD4 Auto Alternator burnt out!

I have recently had a brand new alternator fitted, as the last one burnt out due to engine oil splattering over the top of it, getting into the electrics and burning it out. The problem is, no one so far can identify where the oil leak is coming from and it's started again to leak over the top...

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

Grayo, You are right, it is some sort of joint at the front of the front prop, as I have just bought a new prop with it already on, I'm not sure if it's cal a CV or UJ joint but it has a rubber boot on it and I was told by a Landrover specialist that if that boot is split, it's an MOT failure...

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

Just an up date on my Freelander. I have had the 2 main prop bearings replaced along with what the garage called the anti-vibration damper, its a big round rubber/metal unit thats between the 2 bearings and close to the VCU. The garage put the prop back and road tested the vehicle, but believe...

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

Just an update for the forum on this vibration/rumbling noise. My garage had the test drive, then put it on the ramps today. the diagnosis was it needs 2 front propshaft bearings which are badly worn and the anti-vibration damper is perished. These were the causes of the above problems. I am...

    ABS reluctor rings

I need more advice please. When the new CV joints, boots & reluctor rings are fitted next week, there is a chance this will not fix the ABS brake shudder problem and the front sensors may need replacing. Would you buy a couple of the cheap sensors from ebay and have them fitted at the same time...

    ABS reluctor rings

Yes, the mechanic advised to change both CV joints + boots, as they come with reluctor rings already fitted and they were quite cheap to buy from J & R (recommended by forum). Also, with my vehicle being 12 years old the joints have probably never been changed. Thanks also to Teddywood for the...

    ABS reluctor rings

Just to update the forum on my ABS problem, I'm having the front CV joints fitted with reluctor rings Friday week and the sensors will be cleaned up and checked for damage etc. Hopefully this will stop the brake pedal shudder, if it does not, it must be a faulty ABS sensor, as I have had new...

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

No, I don't know anyone else with a Freelander to change wheels over. I have already had the Z mounting changed which is between the prop and diff but it had gone anyway, so I will let the forum know later in the week with the findings. Thanks

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

Thanks for your reply Grayo, I will consider the tyres, although they are all virtually new, it seems a shame to change them, If I am not sure what the actual problem is? My vehicle is booked in at my local garage on Tuesday, who are taking it out for a test run then onto the ramps for closer...

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

Grayo, The tyres on mine are 2 Bridgestone on the front wheels and Nexen on both rear wheels, although I had never heard of Nexon, I have just searched the net and they come up as a half decent tyre from South Korea. Can this mismatch of tyres cause my vibration/rumbling noise at speed?

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

Ok, here goes. The vibration is not constant at low speed and is not noticeable at all when driving round town at 30-40 mph, but when I hit the motorway and get to 60 mph its then when I can feel this bad rumbling and vibrating coming from underneath the vehicle, which is very annoying to drive...

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

Yes it still has the VCU. I have just checked the mechanic's invoice and its got Z mounting not bush. Does that make any sense?

    TD4 Auto-Bad rumbling/Vibration

I seem to have a new problem with my TD4 Auto every week and rapidly going off Landrover very quickly, they just don't seem very reliable at all? I had an axle/driveshaft bush replaced yesterday for a 2nd time in 3 months. the new one failed and the mechanic fitted a replacement one yesterday...
