Whats the best way to separate rear axle balljoint

Havn't been on forum for a while, but am trying to remove rear axle balljoint from the axle and can't break the taper to remove joint. I have a scissor tool but it is not quite big enough. Does giving the axle casing a good smack with a large hammer work or can you beat it out from underneath...

Are the "no centre box" sports systems any good

Saw them on ebay and it states that it gives a more throaty sound but don't want it too loud and then have to buy another system.

Are the "no centre box" sports systems any good

It's quite a while since I have been on the forum but was wondering if anyone has fitted the 300tdi sports system and if so does it save any fuel and is it too loud or just a nicer sound. Put a stainless sports system on my V8 and it was far too loud and it was like driving a big drum!!

    D1 auto box intermittent problem

My 96 v8i auto was in storage over the winter and after bringing it out of storage the car shuddered violently but only when in 4th gear. The shuddering was quite violent almost like a washing machine with a very out of balance load!!. Also there was poor acceleration. However after selecting...

95 TDi front door latch problem not the wee spring!

Have to finish welding rear crossmember where it meets what used to be the boot floor, then will look at lock so I can get it to MOT. Just spent 3 days welding sills, wheel arch and sides of boot floor.

How to replace rear cluster bulbs

You can do it without removing the seats but it is very fiddly. Easier to remove the light unit retaining plastic nuts and withdraw the unit and then change the bulb. It is a long time since I have done this but you can also drop the top seat mounts to let the seat linkages out of the way.

95 TDi front door latch problem not the wee spring!

Yes, it's not that as it happens when I close the keeper with a screwdriver and it just does not latch closed. Have a spare disco for parts so removed the latch from it last night but could not get the window frame to lift more than 3/4 of an inch at the lock end of the door so hope I don't...

95 TDi front door latch problem not the wee spring!

My trusty disco drivers side door bounces open when you try to close it. Can be difficult to open from outside but opens fine from inside. Sometimes I have to slam the door shut 2 or 3 times to get it to close. Adjusted the linkage to outer door handle and it opens easier and have oiled all...

    aux bel shreading

Check the power steering pully for forward and back play as the key can wear on the pully allowing it to float in and out which shreads the belt but the pump can still operate.:D

    Exhaust!

The drone is VERY LOUD, glorious but it made my ears sore after a 15 mile run so I went back to a standard stainless system

    Strange wuring sound

There is a small chance it may be your viscous fan at the radiator kiking in as I have had this noise with my V8 auto disco although more so in warmer weather and when towing. It may be your torque converter not locking up and still slipping but I am no expert in autos. Try removing the...

    A couple of niggles

Check cooling system water levels when cold. If you are low on coolant then the temp gauge may fluctuate. Is your heater blowing out warm or cold air as if it starts to blow cold air when it is set to hot then you are seriously risking overheating the engine. Could just be a poor wiring...

Changing from Disco 300tdi to P38?

Just wondered if it was worth checking over or should I just stick to iscos which I can fix myself. Don't want to by a bottomless money pit. The rangy is 30 miles away.

Changing from Disco 300tdi to P38?

My disco is knackered major tin worm etc etc. Saw a P38 advertised 2.5 diesel for £1500 with 120k. Is it worth a look or am I asking for lots of trouble? Warey of P38s due to reputation but have had a notion for one for a while. Whats the main points to check apart from air suspension...

    Swivel seal replacement D1

What is the easiest way to replace the swivel seals? Thought of unboltong swivel from axle and withdrawing complete hub with halfshaft and fitting new seal over halfshaft. Can it be done this way? or do I have to strip the hub down?
