My 96 v8i auto was in storage over the winter and after bringing it out of storage the car shuddered violently but only when in 4th gear. The shuddering was quite violent almost like a washing machine with a very out of balance load!!. Also there was poor acceleration. However after selecting all the gears manually it seamed to clear up and the box behaved faultlesly.

However if the car sits for 2 or 3 weeks the box works perfectly in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear with smooth acceleration but when it locks into 4th gear there is a hessitation and slight lack of acceleration similar to an engine missfire. The engine revs freely with full power available in 1st to 3rd gear.

After about 10 to 12 miles the gearbox works perfectly and if the car is used everyday there are no issues at all.

89k mileson car so does it just need the gearbox oil and filters changed or could it be something nasty about to happen.

The engine is 100% and ignition system has been replaced and revs freely in park or neutral.

It is a second dicovery and is only used every 3 or 4 weeks unless I win the lottery then I could afford the petrol.
