    Diesel tank removal help

I got a pattern part replacement a few years ago after I got fed up of trying to plug leaks in my old one. What I did is sealed up any gaps where water might ingress where the bottom plate meets the main body of the tank, then put a thick coat of dinitrol all over the tank before fitting. I...

Sidelights/indicators - looking for decent back plates

Hi all... Last year I bought a set of sidelights/indicators/reversing/brake lights. Admittedly, they were disturbingly cheap... My issue is with the back plates that fit onto the bodywork. So, at the time of fitting them I noticed how brittle the plastic was and in fact some of them cracked...

    Front seat retrim kits

Thanks for the replies... I think I'll be going Britpart (for once!).... Enquiries with Exmoor did not reveal anything that sets them apart anyway... just over-charging basically it seems. My Landy's had horrible ill-fitting discovery seats in it for years, which have now finally collapsed. I...

    Dead defender

Did you check the ignition? I had the same kind of issues for ages - i would investigate and find some bad or corroded connection somewhere, clean it up.. everything fine for a while only to be presented with the same problem eventually... took me ages to narrow it down to the ignition...

    Front seat retrim kits

Been looking at some front seat retrim kits. Does anyone know if there's anything better or "special" about the ones from Exmoor trim as opposed to the usual Britpart ones, since they are that bit more expensive? I know exmoor have various options for upgraded covering materials, but I'm just...

alternator to battery connection - "quick fix"

Hi all, I discovered a while back that my battery doesn't charge. The alternator is putting out good voltage, but the wire going back to the battery has a reading of 0 volts when isolated, suggesting a break in the cable. I've traced what i can see of the wire and can't see anything untoward...

Ignition wiring... problem with 12v permanent supply

OK... so I put the original connections back in place - and all works fine! No longer getting a 5V reading on the supply to ignition. I can only conclude that it was a bad reading, i.e. negative prong of multimeter not earthing properly! For anyone else who has a 200tdi fitted with the old...

Ignition wiring... problem with 12v permanent supply

UPDATE... I feel a bit of pratt now but it turns out i had the wires all wrong on the ignition (duff info from google.... i should have used my multimeter!) So yes, the solenoid was cutting off during cranking due to this. Engine starting fine now on the bypass wires. This still leaves the...

Ignition wiring... problem with 12v permanent supply

Hi all. I'm trying to wire up a new ignition. For some reason the 12v permanent supply (brown wire) is only giving a reading of 5volts... obviously when i turn the ignition on, nothing happens. I'm guessing the brown wire must have been burnt out somewhere to give such a low voltage reading...

anyone had mis-aligned defective wipac headlamps?

Wipac have obviously made a bad batch, i just wondered if anyone else had come across them... The issue is the clip locators on the back of the bulb are in the wrong place, or the lens is wrongly oriented, depending on which way you look at it. It's not a massive issue, i can still use them...

Headlamp correctly aligned but... note the mis-alignment of the clip locators

anyone had mis-aligned defective wipac headlamps?

Hey all. i just bought a "wipac" headlamp kit from one of the major uk suppliers... i've found that the lens of the headlamp is misaligned... once fitted (and they only go on one way) the arrow on the lens that is supposed to point up is out of alignment... not uniformly either.. one headlamp is...

    Rust-proof fuel tank defender 90

Hi all, thought i'd do a quick run-down of my method for rust-proofing a standard steel replacement fuel tank on a defender 90, it's based on other posts i've seen here but i thought i'd add my tuppence worth... First i checked the new tank and found that it was well painted, no scratches and...

defender 90 fuel tank - one hole or two?

good idea! a bit late as i've gone for a metal tank and decided to seal it, paint it and proof the underside with dinitrol 479. Hopefully by the time this one needs replacing somebody will be making plastic tanks for the older defenders :)

    200tdi tuning problem solved

i see... only asking as i have a k&n myself... havent done enough miles to clean it yet. i dont think k&n would recommend petrol for cleaning the filter.. i believe their website has a guide for cleaning/reconditioning the filters which involves using their own oil to re-impregnate the filter...

defender 90 fuel tank - one hole or two?

Done a bit more research and i think i get the picture.... the sender and fuel pickup pipe are integrated on the one-hole tanks, the return pipe has a small hole also... so theyre not really one hole tanks at all!! unless anyone has any easy tips on conversion it looks like i'll have to go for...

defender 90 fuel tank - one hole or two?

Hi all... just discovered my fuel tank is knackered. its not an original, its a cheapo one fitted about 12 years ago (not by me). am now looking at options for replacing it. have seen posts where folks advise repainting/sealing the new tank before fitting- which is frankly ridiculous... surely a...
