Well Iv spliced into all wires, found the earth, the slave wires and the 12v... but no further forward. Im wondering if its just the microswitch that is knackered. In addition, my rear electric windows do now not work either! *Sigh* Looks like Im sticking with manual locking then...

Aha! This is progress. So I most likely have an earlier type 4 wire system, but with a later 5 wire actuator. Could this be the root of my problem? Probably clutching at straws mind, most likely the ECU is goosed - Id still like to make the permanenet 12v thing work.

What has me foxed is that its 5 wires on the actuator side, but only 4 wires on the door side. The actuator looks identical to the one I replaced, and the connectors match. Anyhoo, I'll off out with the multimeter....

Not a fuse sadly - they are all present and correct. And I didnt get a fob when I bought it... though but much later I found one dropped down inside the centre console that may or may not be for my Landy! I put fresh battery in it and it lights up, but no locking / unlocking unfortunately. So...

I can cope with that - just means I'll have a bit more rack hanging out front or back. Just slightly concerned that the feet aint going to line up with the gutters?

Hmmm - Im needing a full length rack for a Disco 1. If I find one in your part of the world, would you have the means to get it to Inverness (assuming the trip does become 'on' again)?

Fitted a twin alternator to run the winches. Someday soon it may actually turn a wheel....

Thanks fellas - all working again, plus a second alternator now mounted which will get wired tomorrow for the 2 winches. :)

Hopefully just the belt! I'll get to check later this morning. Is there a way to correctly tension the belt, or is it ok doing it by feel?

I could, but Id rather fix the fault incase it gets worse.... or fails completely. Most likely on a dark, wet night, miles from anywhere, when Im already running late....

Hope someone can help as this is doing my head in... and costing me a fortune! I have a 1995 300tdi. When I start it up, the battery / charging light stays on, and the rev counter doesnt work. Volt reading across the battery drops slightly when running. If I rev it up to around 2500 / 3000 rpm...

Just done mine - one day, £35. Tools required; Hammer, wallpaper scraper, pop-rivet gun, flexi sealant. Not required; Finesse Dont think it will leak again anyway!

Thanks pal - now found the issue. The drivers door actuator is non-responsive to direct power, so I'll order a new one. Slave actuators all test fine. Suspect ecu is also duff, but as I dont care about the blipper I can live without that. Thanks again!
