Nodge68, The white mushroom things are silicone, they put it on PCBs that are subject to extreme vibration. It stops the big blue bits from shaking themselves off.

Tried to repair wheel arch liner with heat-gun and bits of milk-bottle. Not surprisingly it is much worse now. These liners seem a lot thinner than others I have repaired with success. Does anyone know if they are PP or HDPE? -H

If you don't want it on, you can pull the fuse out!. It [the FBH] can mask faults with the engine thermostat, so worth disabling as an experiment at least. I would expect the MPG to go down with the FBH fighting against a slow thermostat, but I have no evidence to support this.
