    Hmm. Problem reduced but not cured. The garage found that the rear door lock was kaput, so changed it. Also re-aligned the window. The result is that the door shuts correctly but the window glass barely drops enough to clear the top trim. OK if we push it down without too much pressure...

My friend the Citroen man (who suggested consulting the forum) thinks it might be door adjustment needed.It would seem possible after 11 years for the cable spring to have weakened, as you suggest.     I see that. But with the card "club voyageur" which costs 90 €, I save that in one crossing, get free cabin both ways and pay a lot less each time. With 4 or 5 crossings per year it saves all the hassle of a long drive to Dieppe, cost of motorways, and then driving from Newhaven or Dover...
