A new member of the forum, I have a LHD 2003 Freelander TD4, 5 door, bought here in Normandy in 2005. There have been various issues, including rear door hinges needing rewelding about 5 years ago, Turbo hose split leaving us by the side of the road on the way back from visiting family in Germany, new starter motor, new fuel pump this year also during a visit to Germany after sudden and total failure. Thank goodness for ADAC, the German equivalent of the AA!
We spend a lot of time travelling to and fro to see family in Devon and also in Germany. We have also used the car for a trip to Spain. Otherwise we just pootle around here, near Caen and the D-Day landing beaches, where it gets rather busy around the 6th June!

In fact I live in Ouistreham, so continue to use Brittany Ferries en route for Devon. It would cost too much time and money to go all the way up to Calais and then down from Dover!
Thanks for the welcome...
I would never use Calais for the same reason, but Dieppe > Newhaven is much cheaper than Brittany, £105 return with a cabin both ways Last September, shorter crossing time too. From memory Brittany wanted close to £400:eek:

I see that. But with the card "club voyageur" which costs 90 €, I save that in one crossing, get free cabin both ways and pay a lot less each time. With 4 or 5 crossings per year it saves all the hassle of a long drive to Dieppe, cost of motorways, and then driving from Newhaven or Dover to Devon! I take 12 hours door to door, with only 3.5 or 4 hours driving,on the English side. I would prefer Cherbourg-Poole, but the timings are not convenient,as they used to be.

As I only cross once a year and go to Worthing, Dieppe suits me and the mileage is much the same both sides of the channel from where I am.
The club card would be of no benefit to me but I see it is good for you.:)

Pop in when you are passing if you fancy, we are 20 minutes or so west of Poitiers, not too far out of your way as you can cut across from Latille on the D roads.:)
