I know this has been discussed a lot in the past but I have never found a satisfactory answer: the real fuel capacity of a 1996 defender90 300tdi is what? I know the manuals, Liveridge etc say 12 gallons or a tad over 54 litres but I have never got 54 litres in my tank. I ran it down yesterday to the extent (328 miles -an average of just under 30pmg!), that it did not want to start easily and I barely made it 250 metres to the garage. I filled it until the pump cut out and managed to get 49.56 litres in. From this I would have concluded that the capacity was 50L if I had not been told it was 54L so where does the extra gallon fit / go???
