  • Hi Tony I am quite local to you, I have a Discovery TD5. I dont know if anyone has replied to your question below but I have been doing bodywork for a long time. The short answer is clean off all rust by whatever means is easiest, apply rust converter - there are loads of different types out there, apply hammerite or similar paint to the affected area, treat with waxoyl or similar and check once a year.
I would leave the doors until summer and get them thoroughly dried out, grind back to clean unaffected metal, fill if necessary, high build primer and top coat. The inside of the door should be prepared as well as the outside for lasting results - then thoroughly waxoyl the inside of the door.
    Hope this helps,Will.
    Hello everybody out there...
Just bought an '04 Def 110, small area of rust on one section of chassis. Is it better to cover clean bare metal with Waxoil or clean up and paint the affected are before waxoiling? If paint hides the dreaded big "R" then why paint chassis?
Also there are small areas of corrosion in the bottom corners of the drivers door, any ideas about trying to keep on top of it without having to leave of the door panel for weekly dry outs and repaints!!
    Tony
