    21L - "newer" engine?

lynall - the googles was not being kind to me this time. lots of info on VIN numbers and general engine number identification, but nothing for specific date+sn correlation. james - thanks for the explanation. i figured it would be an easy answer like that, but... you know. always good to double...

    21L - "newer" engine?

this guy? not that you can read that $hitty cell phone pic, but it's a 3 over a 95, so march 1995 cast? is that considered an early or late model, as pertains to the timing belt tensioner?

    21L - "newer" engine?

1: there are two kits, with two different tensioners (at least) 2: lynall: thanks, will take a peek!

    21L - "newer" engine?

getting ready to do the timing belt operation in my 300tdi. it's a 21L code, which is a disco EGR (in my d90). there's no date sticker on the engine any more, and it obviously doesn't match the truck's date ('84). so, is it safe to assume (or does anyone know for sure) that it's a late-model...

    Retarded or advanced...or neither

hey - that was, in fact, a very good explanation.

    turbos?

    turner engineering... good lead. thanks

    turbos?

"snigger tractor" does not compute! i'm not after a race truck, here, just... you know... i'm a tinkerer. (and my compressor fins are fuct, so i'm going to have to do something about it eventually).

    turbos?

no doubt. possibly a manifold to. and boost/egt gauges. it'd certainly be something i do concurrently with other stuff. over on the d-90 forum it seems like everyone upgrading is going to variable turbos. i almost never saw variable upgrades among the cummins crowd, though; plenty of guys...

    turbos?

so, who's running non-VGT/VNT aftermarket turbos on their tdi's? what size?

    cyclone breather. bah.

no sweat on the hijack, similar question (same question? hah). i like the idea of a catch tank and an exit hose routed high in the event of wading. got a response over on the compD forum of a cummins drag engine running a catch tank w/ just a filter on the exit - only purpose is monitoring...

    cyclone breather. bah.

nice looking setup, lynall. how often do you have to empty that thing? also, is that just a flipped up stock exhaust manifold? any particular reason for mounting the turbo higher?
  13. S

    cyclone breather. bah.

well, the turbo's kind of immaterial, i should think... to this issue, anyway. where do you route the vapor hose to, from the breather? or is it just a bare vapor port @ the breather? either way, you have a filter on it, or just let it dump free? since i really just needed to know if those...

man... lively bunch around here. :boink:

    cyclone breather. bah.

alright - just fixed up my intake. lots of oil in there from the cyclone breather, which i gather means it (the breather) needs a good cleaning. i'd like to completely avoid the thing spewing oil into my intake in the future, though. anyone running the breather NOT hooked up to their intake...
