It's almost certainly going to be an issue with the interior movement detection. The manual suggests that if you lock the doors using the key, then turn the key to the lock position a second time within 1 second, it should deadlock and arm the alarm with interior protection disabled.

The larger diameter tyres should always be on the rear to prevent increased load on the VCU, so rotating tyres is probably not a good idea in general. When the fronts run low, move the rears onto the front, then fit the new tyres on the rear.

The 1.8 engine is notoriously bad for head gasket failures but, that aside, they're not a bad car and far more competent off road than the rusty bulkhead boys make out. Just a shame more people can't see that they're a great entry point into Land Rover ownership and be a bit more supportive...

If you bought it from a dealer, it may well be worth taking it back and politely explaining that you consider it was inherently flawed when you bought it, then asking them to do you a better than average trade in deal on it. The Sale of Goods Act still applies to used cars sold by traders...

The symptoms you describe - particularly the reverse gear - would lead me to suspect worn synchromesh. A gearbox oil flush and change might help, but if it's significant wear, gearbox replacement will probably be the only solution in the longer term. Try disengaging 1st, releasing the clutch...
