TD4 wont turn-over after failed attempt to bump start.

Hi...here's the story in short. Kids mess with switches, leave interior lights on, battery is dead. GF tries to bump the car down a hill. First attempt she forgets to turn ignition on, second attempt (ignition on this time) it starts, puffs out some smoke but would barely tick over and had no...

    more noisy after refitting VCU

Yeah but...I guess the slight vibration is a bit odd. Or are you guys just so used to having a little vibration under your bum that you think nothing of it?

    more noisy after refitting VCU

Got the VCU from Bell Engineering, the bearings from a place that Bell recommended. As for alignment and fitting I followed Hippo's Howto guide. I basically aligned the bearings at 90 degrees to the VCU - they seems to sit in this position comfortably and I only had to tweak them a mm or two...

    more noisy after refitting VCU

Hi All, Since fitting a recon VCU and new bearings, I've noticed that when going fast 60mph + there is a very slight, but definite increase in noise and a very slight vibration under my seat. The noise doesn't sound like a bad noise just a general hum and I'm sure to most folks you would not...

    Rear End Door Seal

Hi, This is a very common problem it seems. I've attempted to fix this, but I've not quite got it right yet - I bought some RTV Silicone and applied it to the rubber seal where it was leaking, after cleaning it with white spirit, and some clingfilm on the door side to stop it sticking, see...

U shaped washers on prop shaft univerisal joints.

Well it doesn't poke out the end exactly - it just goes pretty much flush with the end of the UJ female spline bit. I inspected the the old VCU carefully and I could see a small mark on the end of the splines where the noggin on the U shaped washer had tightened up against it. I may just be...

U shaped washers on prop shaft univerisal joints.

Hi, I put my prop back together at the weekend, recon VCU and new bearings. It's ready to bolt back on the car now. My only question is this....I followed Hippo's howto guide on replacing the VCU bearings. The U shaped washers have a little noggin on one side - Hippo says these are to stop...

    painting plastic bumpers

Sounds like it may be easier to buy some facelift bumpers and headlights and fit them.

    replace VCU bearings or not?

...my mistake - I looked at foundry4x4 and read it as £27 for 1 bearing when it clearly says x2 - ooops. Oh well. Bell engineering did highly commend my chosen suppliers product however. Fingers crossed for trouble free bearings!

    replace VCU bearings or not?

Right - thanks. I've order some new ones from Evolution Automotive Components - as recommended by Bell Engineering who are supplying the VCU. Seems like a competive price £51.36 for two inc delivery. Matt

    replace VCU bearings or not?

Hi, A quick one...I'm getting a recon VCU and fitting it - wondered if it's worth replacing VCU bearings at the same time - I know it's only about £50 for new ones but if the old ones are fine why bother? I've also read of many problems with crap new bearings - hence my question. Cheers.

    tailgate leak - DIY fix?

Hi, Tailgate is leaking - I've located where. It's hinge side, near to where glass joins door. On the car-side the seal has a flangey flat bit that should marry up to the odd contour of the door... I've googled it and found no solution other than buy a new seal - £100. Anyone managed to fix...

    OH dear!

Thanks hd3 and singvogel. Interesting to note then that on mine (and suspect most other folks) that sensor had a good amount sludge in the end of it - I cant understand how it could possibly have worked correctly. Can you?

    OH dear!

That's the sensor alright...not sure I understand what it does exactly but this bit sounds alarming: "If the sensor fails, a substitute value of 900millibars is used by the ECM producing a reduction in power due to fuel quantity limiting and EGR shut off" That manual is a great resource btw...
