    Disco 1/2 window differences

A friend of mine does tinting professionally, the important part most people don't do is to form the film on the outside of the glass first. Use a knife to trim to the correct shape (make sure you know which side is the sticky, and have that side facing outwards on the outside of the window (so...

    Auto/Manual Gearbox

Brilliant, thanks for that. I had previously ruled out an auto, but that does limit the search, and if I really don't get on with it then will do a box swap further down the line.

    Auto/Manual Gearbox

I'm looking for a 200/300 TDi Disco, as a toy really. I would prefer a manual, but seem to find more autos, which leads me to ask a few questions. 1) how much less economy are they? Are we talking <5mpg difference, or half? 2) Are they more or less reliable than a manual? Any problems to look...

hand painting which colours take best?

Id stick to a solid colour. I want mine long term to be eye catching but subtle, don't know how that works, but I'm thinking either NATO Green or Sand, a bright solid blue or grey. I would like something that will not stand out like a sore thumb on a Greenlane, but then I also quite fancy g4 orange.

    Newbie - Please be nice!

So, been to look at my first disco tonight, after a few emails back and forth. Car has MOT for a good few months, bit of tax, didn't look amazing but had recently done the Mac 4x4 so figured it had had a good run. After looking though (and taking my mate with me for his advice) - decided to...

    who do you insure with?

I had a quote from Adrian Flux, £450 odd for a £500 odd disco with excess protection (pay £100 excess and it comes back within 10 days), off road cover, fully comp, cover all modifications other than chips/turbos etc. Didn't think that was too bad considering I have no NCB to use and haven't...

    Facelift Headlight Security Kit

There's a security kit shown in the "Shiny Fings To Buy" section of LRO this month, looks like a steel surround for the light unit with a 4mm bar running vertically between the main and indicator lights. Looks quite smart, and about £40 if I recall. Will get details later if I can summon up the...

getting wide tyres onto the bead

We have at work a Cheetah, which is a device with an air tank, also known as a bead blaster. You fill the tank, connect the airline to the valve, start filling through the valve and then position the blaster in the gap betwixt wheel and tyre. The air is released in one go, causing the tyre to...

    Newbie - Please be nice!

Well, luckily a very good friend, mechanic and LR owner friend of mine has just been given a job in our workshop, so I have access to his tools, and two and four poster ramps, and hopefully a slightly friendly MOT tester. As for welding it's definitely something I want to learn - I am currently...

    Newbie - Please be nice!

So, after my 30th I now have an official fund, with a money box and everything. Having thought about it lots more, Definately a TDi, seen a few around (one on here had the money box been big enough I would have bought already) and a couple on the bay that look good - so hopefully soon will have...
