Started my new commute today, which means that the Rangie will once again be a proper 'daily', rather than just pootling around a few days a week and the odd long trip at weekends. Hopefully it will be all the better for more regular use.

Thanks for the replies. I have ended up having to put the old ICV back in and it works OK, but it still stalls from time to time. I will have to get it looked at by the experts.

Ok, hoses seem fine but I have noticed that it only makes this noise when idling and in gear without touching the accelerator. For example when reverse parking and allowing the car to 'roll' backwards into the space (auto box remember) it makes the noise, but as soon as I touch the accelerator...

Strange whining/squealing coming from under the bonnet. Only happens when the engine is warmed up and it comes and goes. Sounds to me as though it is some sort of valve/vacuum rather than any of the belts. I've even put together a Youtube clip of it: Mysterious squealing noise from Range...

Thank you Datatek. Yesterday I found the connector for the rear wiper motor underneath the headlining at the very back of the car, but will look for the air con and sunroof connectors tonight. I imagine they might be a bit harder to access?

The cause of the depleting battery was a 5A+ draw (!!) on it, which turned out to be the circuit that has the rear wiper, air con and sunroof. For now, I have pulled the fuse and that has put a stop to the problem and reduced the draw to less than .50A. Excuse my ignorance on electrical matters...
