Well, a month on and I still can't settle on my next daily driver! I've looked into all sorts of (Diesel) stuff inc RRC's, late D2's, late P38's, L322's, XC90's, Thunders, Navaras, HiLux's, even FL2's and nothing really works for me. Maybe I should just buy a car :(

In the 3 and half years I have had my softdash V8, how it has been used has varied, but for the last 4 months it has been a proper daily, covering a 17mile round trip every week day and trips of various distances at weekends. That might be the weekly shop or a family holiday to Devon and it is absolutely fine. No LPG and I am averaging 18.3MPG. I have to say, that with the more frequent use, it seems to perform much better and all the occasional niggles seem to have gone away.

As long as you can live with the fuel costs, a decent Classic can definitely make a good daily.

See I do like V8's (especially the one that was in my Camero) but I can't justify the expense for a daily driver so it's gonna have to be a Diesel.

I have tried to stay faithful to Landrover but they just don't make what I want/need this time so I think I'm going Japanese for the daily (Navara probably) then build the Series 3 off-roader I've always wanted for the weekends. If I can factor in a RRC in the future I will!

Thanks for the responses anyway guys! ;)

Before you buy a Navrra, look at some of the forums, they make a P38 look reliable.

+1
I happen to drive one a couple of times a week at work and I'm not impressed enough to want to own one.
Got a bunch of them at work as service vehicles and they've not turned out be even half as good as the old hilux pick up trucks they were brought in to replace.
Only plus for those is the blistering performance from the turbocharged diesels.
If you got to have anything else, get a hilux.
Got one from new six years ago with 155k on the clock now and never missed a beat.

a classic on gas will give 30+mpg (comparing to petrol),more compared to diesel costs

Thanks guys, I heeded advice from this and other threads plus a lot of poking about other forums and even more thinking and have now more or less settled on a.... Well there's no point in starting another debabte lol. I'll still have a LR for the weekends though!

Daily drive

I just bought an xc90
You been talking to Kizzeh? ...or have your really bought one??

Either way yeh that's what I'm chopping the Freelander in for - drove a D5 auto on Friday it was bloody superb, more comfy than a RR and 40+ mpg!!

They have a few issues to be aware of but don't all cars... Always had a soft spot for Volvos since my 264 back in the 80's lol.

How you getting on with yours then?
